Foundations of Climbing and Cornering (with trail ride!)

  • Bellingham, WA 98229 (map)
  • 4 hour session

  • Open to all skill levels, no prerequisite required but we do strongly recommend our Foundations of Mountain Biking class if you haven’t had any previous instruction or you are very new to the sport

  • We all know that in theory, building upon a solid foundation is a key to success, especially as things get more complex. So whether or not you are new to mountain biking, you may benefit from insightful coaching on foundational skills.

  • Climbing and cornering are two of the most common challenges in mountain biking so learning and/or honing skills to improve your technique can dramatically increase your safety and enjoyment on the trails.

  • Proper climbing techniques will save you valuable energy on the uphills which you can then cash-in on the rest of the ride. Cha-ching!

  • Learning strategies and drills to practice for better cornering skills can help you hold (or even generate) speed through a variety of turns and corners you encounter on trails, especially singletrack.

  • In this class we will help you build a solid foundation of balance, counter-balance, bike-body separation, line choice, braking techniques, and shifting strategies that will fuel your progress for better bike handling in general but especially for cornering, turning, and climbing.

  • Students can expect to leave this class with a deeper understanding of how to safely corner and turn at a variety of speeds (uphill, downhill, and flat), how to practice cornering and climbing drills to help hone the muscle memory needed to feel consistent and smooth, and how to read trails to pick the best lines, set speeds, and time their movements for inspired progression.
